One of Reggae’s renowned cultural roots artists, King Ayoola speaks to cultural empowerment and awakening in a rootical format. Set to heavy island style rhythms. His baritone vocals magnify deep rooted compassion for the struggle and fight for equal rights, justice, family values, and cultural awareness. A skilled performer and entertainer, King’s high energy radiates into his listening audience. Backed by live band Pure Fiyah Reggae Band, King Ayoola is a seasoned talent with much to offer crowds. Performing with such legends as Yellowman, Ziggy Marley, Chuck D, Super Cat, Shabba Ranks, Sista Carol, Jamal Ski, Top Cat, Patra, Sizzla, Culture and the Wailers, to name a few he is fast to reference these greats as the most influential in his life.
2014 will bring the releasing of his fifth solo album "Forty Days and Forty Nights" from his label Alkebulan Records/Film. King Ayoola is bringing new awareness of self love and community empowerment. His Singles Lion Man Roar, Jah Save I and Dred Lock King, are only a sample of the greatness that King has been working on over the years. Look for 2014 to be a breakout year that will surely render global success.
From on the shores of Nigeria he is a first generation African born on Turtle Island. Raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for most of his youth, it was there that his love of music began as he was immersed in the cultural music scene. Performing by the young age of 3 years old, young King was taught by his father who was a cultural roots musician and his mother, a keyboardist and vocalist. They impressed their influence into their fifth born King early in his life.
After being certified in Radio Communication Retail and marketing at the academy of career training college in Philadelphia, Pa. between 1986-1987, King took to the airwaves working as a DJ with North Carolina radio stations WDUR- DURHAM, WXDU- DUKE, WKNC- NC STATE, WNCU-NC CENTRAL, and WCOM – CARRBORO. King became known in the south as "Big Country" and "Mr. Radio Personality". That recognition inspired him to attend Time Warner Production Workshop in Chapel Hill, N.C. With this training he produced the longest running Reggae TV video show in North Carolina titled Reggae Live Wire. Revered by the city as one of the founding fathers of roots and culture in North Carolina’s media, King recently received Durham NC’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
